OSSC Annual Orchid Auction
Once a year, usually in May or June, OSSC hosts an auction of high-quality orchids. This is the main fund-raising event for the society, and proceeds from this event are vital to the continued operation of Southern California's oldest orchid society.
2008 OSSC Annual Auction
The date for this year's auction has been set for Saturday, March 15, 2008. It is being held earlier than usual in order to offer over 100 Cymbidium orchids, in addition to lots of other orchid varieties, many in full, glorious bloom. 2007 OSSC Annual Orchid Auction Recap
The last bid is in, the last
“SOLD” has been uttered, and this year’s Orchid Auction is now history.
Thanks to the generous support of our donors and the tireless efforts of
our volunteers, this year’s auction managed to raise a significant
portion of the funds needed to run our society. Attendance was
about the same as last year and, the event grossed about $249 less than
the prior year’s. As always, these funds will be used to defray the
general expenses of the society, including our educational and
promotional programs, and represent the largest source of income for our
society this year. We particularly want to commend the dedication, hard
work, and time sacrifice
of each of our volunteers, which is a testament to the vibrancy of our
organization. And we had fun doing it! Overall, the whole event went
very smoothly, with none
of the numerous “balls in the air” being dropped.
Once again, the auction experience was greatly enhanced by the engaging and informed commentary and humor of our auctioneers, Dan Dickey and Doug Conkin. Winning bids ranged from as little as $7 for some “near blooming size” plants up to $310 for a magnificent specimen of a non orchid donated by Diola Snell.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
Needless to say, an event as successful as this year’s auction was the
result of both the generosity of our donors as well as the dedication of
our volunteers. Donations to this year’s auction came from 39
different donors. OSSC is truly grateful to all of the
vendors, members, and visitors
listed below who generously donated plants, supplies, or their time and
energy to OSSC’s 2007 Orchid Auction.
